Parts and supplies

Confirm the replacement part and the source's complete supply list for your exact model and Wi-Fi or cellular variant before starting.

Display adhesive is normally replaced after opening. Follow the source's requirements for screws, tape, foam and calibration.

Before you begin

Confirm the model in Settings → General → About and match the screen size and Wi-Fi or cellular version. A similar-looking iPad can have different cables, screws and replacement parts.

Battery and glass precautions

Back up your data and disconnect all accessories. Follow the selected source's discharge and power-isolation instructions before opening. A swollen, dented, punctured or unusually hot battery needs specialist handling; do not heat, bend or pry it. Protect your eyes from broken glass. Power down before adjusting an internal connection.

Repair sequence

Use the linked Apple illustrations alongside the sequence below. They specify the screw map, tool settings, cable routing and adhesive placement. The complete removal and reassembly procedure opens on Apple Support.

  1. Prepare the correct display tools

Use the Air 13-inch display tools and adhesive alignment tray in Apple’s tool list. Read the linked removal and reassembly diagrams before opening. Power off and unplug the iPad.

  2. Release the perimeter adhesive

Use Apple’s heated removal fixture procedure. Protect the camera areas shown in the diagram and follow the cutter path and depth limit. Keep the display supported; it remains connected by flex cables.

  3. Separate the display connections

Support the display in the repair tray. Remove the microphone, Multi-Touch and display connector cowlings; disconnect the indicated flex cables without pulling on their sockets.

  4. Prepare the replacement

Remove old perimeter adhesive. Install the specified fresh adhesive and grounding materials using the alignment tray. Follow the Wi-Fi or cellular branch in Apple’s diagrams.

  5. Reconnect and reseal

Reconnect each flex cable, refit cowlings with the specified new screws and torque, remove the adhesive liners, and lower the display without trapping cables. Activate the adhesive as directed.

  6. Finish the repair

Run the diagnostic and Repair Assistant steps in the linked procedure, then complete the functional checklist below.
