Parts and supplies

Confirm the replacement part and the source's complete supply list for your exact model and Wi-Fi or cellular variant before starting.

Display adhesive is normally replaced after opening. Follow the source's requirements for screws, tape, foam and calibration.

Before you begin

Confirm the model in Settings → General → About and match the screen size and Wi-Fi or cellular version. A similar-looking iPad can have different cables, screws and replacement parts.

Battery and glass precautions

Back up your data and disconnect all accessories. Follow the selected source's discharge and power-isolation instructions before opening. A swollen, dented, punctured or unusually hot battery needs specialist handling; do not heat, bend or pry it. Protect your eyes from broken glass. Power down before adjusting an internal connection.

Repair sequence

Use the linked Apple illustrations alongside the sequence below. They specify the screw map, tool settings, cable routing and adhesive placement. The complete removal and reassembly procedure opens on Apple Support.

  1. Open the device

Fully discharge the battery and complete the linked display-removal procedure first. Stop if the cell is damaged.

  2. Release the battery

Remove the battery-connector screw. Stretch-release all 11 adhesive strips using the order and pull direction in Apple’s diagram. Keep tweezers away from the cell pouch.

  3. Handle broken adhesive safely

Retrieve an accessible broken tab carefully. If a strip cannot be retrieved, use only the insertion points pictured by Apple where adhesive has already been removed; never force a tool underneath the cell.

  4. Prepare and fit a new battery

Remove the released battery. Clear loose parts and old adhesive from the enclosure without wetting flex cables. Keep the new battery’s upper protective cover in place while aligning and seating its connector.

  5. Secure the battery

Fit the specified new connector screw with the black 0.35 kgf·cm driver. Activate each adhesive strip with the roller as illustrated; avoid the protected areas. Remove the protective cover.

  6. Reassemble and charge

Refit the display using fresh adhesive. Check that the battery is secure, charge briefly, then perform the tests below. A loose battery requires reopening and replacement as directed by Apple.
