iPhone 17e Battery Replacement
The iPhone 17e battery comes out through the back and is held by an adhesive that lets go when you pass a small electric current through it, so there are no pull tabs to snap.

Open the back
Power off and remove the bottom screws
Back up and power the phone off. Remove the two pentalobe screws on either side of the USB-C port. If the glass is cracked, cover it with packing tape first so it doesn’t flake and the suction cup can grip.
Bottom edge. One screw on each side of the port. Soften the adhesive
Warm the edges of the back glass evenly for 2–3 minutes. The glass should feel hot but still comfortable to hold.
Cut the back glass adhesive
Lift near the bottom edge with a suction cup just enough for a hairline gap, slide a pick in and cut up both long sides, stopping at the antenna lines. Pull the glass slightly toward you to free the hooks along the top, then cut across the top.
Don’t lift the bottom edge more than about 5°; the cables there are short.
Cut both long sides first, then slide the glass down slightly and cut the top. Open the back glass like a book
The back glass stays attached by a cable along one long edge, and that edge acts as the hinge. Lift the free edge and open it like a book. Support it so the cable isn’t holding its weight, and cover the camera lenses to keep dust off.
Disconnect the battery first
Remove the 3 tri-point screws from the middle and lower connector covers and lift them off. Unplug the battery cable first, then the back glass cable. The battery cable has strong adhesive under it, so lift it gently.
Battery off first and back on last, so the phone stays dead while cables are moving. Schematic, not to scale.
Release the battery
Lift the silver adhesive tab
Peel the silver tab up with tweezers until it stands at about 45°. It’s the electrical contact for the battery adhesive.
Connect the 9-volt and hold for 90 seconds
Clip the red (+) lead to the silver tab and the black (−) lead to the lower-right grounding screw on the bottom speaker. Hold steady for 1 minute 30 seconds. If a clip slips off, start over.
Polarity matters: reversed leads leave the sticky residue on the frame. A bench supply set higher, up to 30 V, works faster.
Schematic. Red to the tab, black to the lower-right grounding screw. Tab position simplified. Free the battery cable
There is a strip of adhesive under the battery cable. Release it with the flat end of a spudger and peel the adhesive off the cable with tweezers.
Lift the battery out
Hold the phone steady and lift the battery with a suction cup. It should come up with almost no force; if it resists, repeat the 90-second cycle. Never bend or pry the cell. Put the old battery into a metal can of sand.
Install and close
Clean the battery bay
The leftover adhesive is clear and easy to miss. Wipe the bay with isopropyl alcohol several times until it’s no longer tacky.
Seat the new battery
Apply the new battery’s adhesive, line it up with the logic board and bottom speaker, lower it in and press firmly across the whole cell.
Reconnect and close
Connect the back glass cable first, then the battery cable. Refit the covers and their screws, lay fresh back glass adhesive, close and clamp the glass, and reinstall the bottom screws.
Test and finish
Shake gently; nothing should rattle. Charge for a few minutes before powering on. An aftermarket battery shows as an unknown part under Settings › General › About › Parts & Service History; that’s expected.
