Open the back
Power off and remove the bottom screws
Back up and power the phone off. Remove the two P2 pentalobe screws on either side of the USB-C port. Tape over cracked glass first so it doesn’t flake and the suction cup can grip.

Warm the edges of the back glass evenly for 2–3 minutes. The glass should feel hot but still comfortable to hold.

Lift near the bottom edge with a suction cup and cut along both long sides and the top until the glass is free. Slide the glass slightly toward the bottom of the phone to release the top clips. Don’t lift the bottom edge more than about 5°.
Cut both long sides first, then slide the glass down slightly and cut the top. Open the back glass like a book
The back glass stays attached by a cable along one long edge, and that edge acts as the hinge. Lift the free edge and open it like a book. Support it, and cover the camera lenses to keep dust off.

Remove the 3 tri-point screws from the two connector covers. Unhook the lower cover by pushing it slightly toward the top of the phone, tilting it up and sliding it out toward the Taptic Engine. Release the upper cover by pressing its top edge about 1 mm toward the bottom of the phone, then lift it out from the bottom.
Unplug the battery cable first, then the back glass cable.

Remove the battery
Pull the two adhesive strips
There are two stretch-release strips under the battery. Peel the first tab off the battery with blunt tweezers without scraping the cell, wrap it around the tweezers and lift about an inch until white adhesive shows.
Keep the tweezers low and parallel to the battery and pull toward the top of the phone, twisting as you go, until the whole strip slides out. Repeat for the second strip. Don’t drag the strips across screws or parts.

Grab a visible broken end and keep twisting. If it’s out of reach, slide the flat end of a spudger only under a spot where the strip already came out and lift gently. Never bend or pry the battery; if it won’t come free, stop and bring it to a shop.

Clean the bay and seat the new battery
Wipe leftover adhesive from the bay with alcohol and check for loose screws. Apply the new battery’s adhesive, line it up with the logic board and bottom speaker, and press it down firmly across the whole cell.

Connect the back glass cable first, then the battery cable. Refit the upper and lower covers and their 3 tri-point screws, lay fresh back glass adhesive, close and clamp the glass, and reinstall the bottom screws.

Shake gently; nothing should rattle. Charge for a few minutes before powering on. An aftermarket battery shows as an unknown part under Settings › General › About › Parts & Service History; that’s expected.
